Ol'Smoky Log Cabin on the River Unit 6

Our log cabins are located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, which is adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park; the most visited National Park in America. This part of Western North Carolina offers beautiful scenery with it's majestic mountains, crystal clear streams and rivers, waterfalls, hiking trails and more.

Each of our log cabins has a full front porch just a few feet away from the Oconaluftee River, which offers some of the best trout fishing around. This river is stocked twice a week with brown and rainbow trout. Fly fishermen can enjoy the “catch and release” waters with trophy sized fish just minutes away…so don’t forget your fishing gear!!! This river also provides a great place for rafting, tubing, and even swimming.

We're easy to get to and our location is great. We're 1/8 of a mile from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, yet we're about the same distance to shopping, restaurants and more. We're 1 mile from the Outdoor Drama, Cherokee Museum and the Oconaluftee Indian Village. Feel lucky? We're only 2 miles from Cherokee Harrah's Casino.

We consider our cabins to be semi-secluded. You're not way back in the woods, yet you're not in the middle of town. We have 6 log cabins lining the riverbank. The view across the river is forest land with no development. The cabins are separated by full deck areas, 8-15 feet in size. The back of the cabins are about 50 feet from Big Cove Road, which is a local side road with low to moderate traffic. We believe you'll find the setting peaceful and enjoyable.

As you can tell, we can offer you an action packed vacation, or you can relax in your rocking chair and watch the river flow by, it's up to you!

Before you pack up the car and head for the mountains, know that when we say mountains, we really mean it!

Downtown Bryson City has an elevation of 1,752 feet, so think of this as a starting point. The majority of our cabins will have a higher elevation than this. This means that our roads- both state and private- will be steeper, narrower, and curvier than you may be use to driving. Also, you should expect to encounter gravel roads. Consider it part of our rural mountain charm!

  We took 3 of our 4 kids and ran away from life for an extended weekend up in Cherokee. This little cabin was very rustic and right on the water. There was no WiFi even with our portable hotspot and none of our cell phones had service. It was a blessing in disguise. Instead of playing on tablets and phones, we played in the river and painted rocks.

  I will say this though, there were only two window unit A/C in the entire house. One upstairs and one downstairs. We had to buy fans to keep cool as it was summertime.

  The cabin is wonderful and situation very close to many of the attractions and the Great Smokies National Park. We have been going to these cabins for alsmost 30 years now and have enjoyed every bit of it, however I feel all the additional costs added by Yellow Rose are out of line and make the price much less attractive or competitive with other locations.

  The Elk came thru the woods and across the bridge and were directly across the street from the cabin. Saw 2 fly fishermen in the river.
  Cooked every meal at the Cabin.

  The cabins are definitely “rustic” with no central heat/air. The weather was beautiful so we only needed the wall heater in the morning. We brought our dogs and wished this cabin had the small yard like the other cabins so we could walk them but we used the small yard anyway since the in-laws were in the next cabin. They supplied plenty of towels and other supplies for our stay. The cabins are within walking distance to shopping and restaurants and only a few minutes drive to the other activities. The cabins are right on the water with a steep trail to get to it. Overall, our visit was very nice and enjoyable.

  We had an awesome time! Overall our stay was very pleasant with a few inconveniences. Knowing nowhere is perfect anyways! Cleaning was late... Understandable, yet inconvenient. Upstairs showerhead didn't work. Thankfully two bathrooms. Downstairs bathroom exahust fan didn't work. Had one floor fan but two would've been better. Fire hydrant across street broke and they had to cut main water off for a few hours... Understandable, yet inconvenient. Overall had a good time! Great location! Would highly recommend!

  The only things that we would change is to have a washer and dryer in the cabin and to have direct and easy access to the river bank, other than that, we loved the cabin!   We had a great stay at the Ol'Smoky Log Cabin. It is right on the river, which was very picturesque! We didn't anticipate it being right on a main road, so traffic was a little loud at night (mainly because it was very hot upstairs so we had to sleep with the window open to cool us off.) We couldn't find any AC, so we were glad to be there in March when it was cool enough outside that we could open windows and cool it down. Overall a nice stay! They had everything we needed and it was really close to the national park!
