Ol'Smoky Log Cabin on the River Unit 1

Our log cabins are located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, which is adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park; the most visited National Park in America. This part of Western North Carolina offers beautiful scenery with it's majestic mountains, crystal clear streams and rivers, waterfalls, hiking trails and more.

Each of our log cabins has a full front porch just a few feet away from the Oconaluftee River, which offers some of the best trout fishing around. This river is stocked twice a week with brown and rainbow trout. Fly fishermen can enjoy the “catch and release” waters with trophy sized fish just minutes away…so don’t forget your fishing gear!!! This river also provides a great place for rafting, tubing, and even swimming.

We're easy to get to and our location is great. We're 1/8 of a mile from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, yet we're about the same distance to shopping, restaurants and more. We're 1 mile from the Outdoor Drama, Cherokee Museum and the Oconaluftee Indian Village. Feel lucky? We're only 2 miles from Cherokee Harrah's Casino.

We consider our cabins to be semi-secluded. You're not way back in the woods, yet you're not in the middle of town. We have 6 log cabins lining the riverbank. The view across the river is forest land with no development. The cabins are separated by full deck areas, 8-15 feet in size. The back of the cabins are about 50 feet from Big Cove Road, which is a local side road with low to moderate traffic. We believe you'll find the setting peaceful and enjoyable.

As you can tell, we can offer you an action packed vacation, or you can relax in your rocking chair and watch the river flow by, it's up to you!

Before you pack up the car and head for the mountains, know that when we say mountains, we really mean it!

Downtown Bryson City has an elevation of 1,752 feet, so think of this as a starting point. The majority of our cabins will have a higher elevation than this. This means that our roads- both state and private- will be steeper, narrower, and curvier than you may be use to driving. Also, you should expect to encounter gravel roads. Consider it part of our rural mountain charm!

  Wow, love the changes with WiFi, AC/heat units, YouTube TV, ceiling fans, etc. All are game changers after staying her many times over the last 10 years. No less the gas fireplace.   I have been renting this cabin several times a year to trout fish. This last time we took our 7yo grandson and he loved it. The outdoor drama "Unto These Hills" is a must see. Tubing down the river was great too. My only complaint would be the dated furniture in the living area, and no internet.

  Overall, great experience & location! Only recommendation I have for stays of 7 nights or greater...it would be helpful to have more than just two trash bags per cabin. All other supplies such as toilet paper were more than enough. However, two trash bags at the current size given for the kitchen trash can is not enough to cover the stay. Other than that, no issues. Our family had a wonderful vacation.

  For the 1st time in 10 years we had roaches in the kitchen and both bathrooms. The TV is Roku and without WiFi what channels we could get were not clear pictures. Not as clean as it has been in the past before it was taken over by Yellow Rose. No tools for the fireplace if we'd wanted a fire; and it ashes had not been cleaned out. We will be back though.

  We enjoyed having two cabins close together for a large family fall break trip. The cabins were very clean and rustic, to be expected and very fitting for the experience. The lack of locks and security in a cabins that was so close to other houses and a busy road was a little unsettling. The doors HAVE locks, but something similar to what you would find on an interior door. A few windows were unlocked and/or opened when we arrived as well. Gorgeous views of the creek in the backyard, decks were beautiful and very clean. Great location for quick access to fishing.

  Been staying in these cabins for years, generally multiple times a year. Great location and always well maintained and clean. Perfect for our needs. Biggest challenge can be some inconsistency from cabin to cabin and a little wear and tear creeping in. For example, the silverware cabinet drawer is falling apart, very few forks, dish sprayer handle came apart, screen door missing to the porch, ash shovel missing, toilet paper holder in downstairs bedroom broken, no sheet pans for oven or strainer for pasta and rinsing vegetables, and TV was not working correctly with extremely snowy picture. We haven’t experienced these issues during previous stays. Hopefully, they will get corrected before our next stay in the fall.

  Going to be honest. The photos were just a tad misleading, but for a last minute trip, it worked out okay. We really liked the location, as we were 20 minutes from skiing and less than 10 minutes from the casino. Also located on a nice stream, which we all found nice. Did not feel the cabin was very well maintained as it was dirty. The heater rattled constantly, there were cobwebs and dust all over the cabin. Just not the kind of clean you expect from a vacation rental. The beds, however, did have clean sheets and bedding, and the bath and bath linens were clean as well. NO WI-IF, which we did not know until we arrived, for which we will take the blame; we assumed everybody has that nowadays. Our mistake. Made it extremely hard to watch television for weather, etc. Not much to choose from as far as items to cook with, but I guess most people don't go to cook while they're gone. We were there during snow, when much of the area is closed--including restaurants, so we were actually roughing it a little more than we wanted, and could have cooked since we brought things, but technically couldn't since the pots/pans/dishes/utensils appeared to be from a Dollar General or somewhere of the like. We're giving this cabin a 3-star rating simply because it was well located. Other than that, we cannot say this is a "must stay" kind of place.

  This was my 3rd visit to this property. I definitely recommend Dena when making your reservation. The Cabins were in a transitional period from the owners over to Yellowrose Reality.

  see how we were doing. She helped us get our fire going. Betsy & Her husband have owned these cabins for 30 years.
  I have only one complaint-The bed linens & Towels were scented. I have allergies and asthma but I had brought my own bed linens, pillows & towels. We stayed in and enjoyed the porch, creek & fireplace and we also used the grill. We cooked all our meals, drank coffee & hot chocolate by the fire and on the porch.
  We ventured out to see the Elk at the Great Smokie Mts. Visitor Center-5 mins. from our cabin-we counted 74!
  We highly recommend a stay at "Ole Smokey Log Cabins".
