Ol'Smoky Log Cabin on the River Unit 5

Our log cabins are located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, which is adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park; the most visited National Park in America. This part of Western North Carolina offers beautiful scenery with it's majestic mountains, crystal clear streams and rivers, waterfalls, hiking trails and more.

Each of our log cabins has a full front porch just a few feet away from the Oconaluftee River, which offers some of the best trout fishing around. This river is stocked twice a week with brown and rainbow trout. Fly fishermen can enjoy the “catch and release” waters with trophy sized fish just minutes away…so don’t forget your fishing gear!!! This river also provides a great place for rafting, tubing, and even swimming.

We're easy to get to and our location is great. We're 1/8 of a mile from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, yet we're about the same distance to shopping, restaurants and more. We're 1 mile from the Outdoor Drama, Cherokee Museum and the Oconaluftee Indian Village. Feel lucky? We're only 2 miles from Cherokee Harrah's Casino.

We consider our cabins to be semi-secluded. You're not way back in the woods, yet you're not in the middle of town. We have 6 log cabins lining the riverbank. The view across the river is forest land with no development. The cabins are separated by full deck areas, 8-15 feet in size. The back of the cabins are about 50 feet from Big Cove Road, which is a local side road with low to moderate traffic. We believe you'll find the setting peaceful and enjoyable.

As you can tell, we can offer you an action packed vacation, or you can relax in your rocking chair and watch the river flow by, it's up to you!

Before you pack up the car and head for the mountains, know that when we say mountains, we really mean it!

Downtown Bryson City has an elevation of 1,752 feet, so think of this as a starting point. The majority of our cabins will have a higher elevation than this. This means that our roads- both state and private- will be steeper, narrower, and curvier than you may be use to driving. Also, you should expect to encounter gravel roads. Consider it part of our rural mountain charm!

  We started staying in these cabins about 20 years ago because our family lives on Big Cove road and the cabins are cozy. You can’t beat the deck area over the river. Its so pretty and peaceful even though it’s on a busy road. The cabins really need some improvements because they are mostly just like they were 20 years ago. (Same couch even😬) We do not come to be on the Wi-Fi when there is so much more to enjoy around the area, however 1 of us needed to get some last minute work done for their job and unbelievably there is no internet. Be aware that there is very little in the way of cookware except for peeling Teflon coated pans that are not safe to use. Bring your own pans and pots if you plan to cook. We like to stay in and cook so this was disappointing.
  Overall I would rate these cabins a 6 out of 10 because they really need to add internet and do cosmetic upgrades. We all still had a good time and would come again. I’m going to hope that some small updates we happen before we come again🤞

  The cabin was located on the river and had the rustic feel I was looking for. The cabin was clean and looked exactly like the photos that were posted on the website. The beds were very comfortable and the log frame accented the cabin. The covered porch facing the river provided a relaxing space to enjoy nature. If you are looking for a rustic cabin, this is it! If you want a great breakfast, go to Peter's Pancake and Waffles just a short distance from the cabin. The cabin is located in Cherokee and close to the city center. Make sure you look for the elk and other wildlife. My husband and brother-in-law had a great time trout fishing. We enjoyed our stay and hope to came back next year!

  Been renting the cabins for years. They are in a great location for fishing. Always clean and comfortable. The last couple stays have provided an inconsistent experience related to kitchen utensils, etc. Luckily, we had brought some plastic utensils as the cabin on had one teaspoon and one fork. Also, no serving utensils or colander as provided previously. I recommend, if not already used, a check list for the cleaning crew to make sure they are properly stocked. Minor things, though they throw a curveball into packing when you are expecting these kitchen items and they are missing upon arrival.

  Awesome location for a fishing trip. We have used this exact location 2 years in a row. Back porch overlooks the river and we caught multiple trout just feet from the cabin. Kitchen is big enough to clean and fillet fish. Oven and refrigerator make it easy to cook. If you bring your own supplies, you never have to leave the cabin except to fish. Everything about this cabin and its location makes it perfect for a fishing trip.

  Cabin was perfect for what we needed. We had three guys staying at the cabin. We each had our own bedroom. Kitchen was big enough to cook meals when we returned from fishing and we were able to clean our catch and package up fillets storing them in freezer. Back porch with rocking chairs overlooking the stream was awesome. Even caught several trout including largest fish of the trip right off the porch. Only issue we had was we were unable to make contact with agency after visit to report we broke a coffee cup.
