The Cullisia cabin was originally constructed in the Laurel community near Marshall, North Carolina around 1892. The LL Merchants Company out of Asheville and the Presbyterians hired Jim Leake and Lump Norton to build the cabin for use as a mission and a doctor's office. All the logs were hand hewn.

To move the cabin, the logs were numbered and taken down one by one. In 2012 we rebuilt the cabin beside a mountain creek on East Cullisia Road in the Alarka community near Bryson City, NC.

We used reclaimed materials for the floor, walls and exterior gable ends. All of the logs and much of the inside paneling is native American Chestnut.

Most of the furniture is hand-made from reclaimed materials, using such old time techniques as mortise and tenoning. The heart pine bead board used in the downstairs bedroom was reclaimed from a one-room schoolhouse in Bryson City.

Rest assured, Cullisia features countless improvements over the original cabin with it's more primitive 'comforts'. The cabin has all the features and amenities for today's lifestyles while preserving the nostalgia of a 19th century mountain homestead.

I loved my stay here. The sounds of the runni g stream is none stop and the fire pit is right next to it so you can sit on the provided log seating or do like i did and bring folding rocking chairs. The gas fire place is perfect just turn the switch on and you have a roaring fire. The soaking tub is perfect after a long day. But if you want a regular shower they have one upstairs in the second full bath. Its easy to get to with google maps. I would recommend this cabin to everyone. I stay at two different cabins every winter in the Smokey Mountains in NC but it will be so hard not to go back to this cabin.

Really loved this cabin, so practical and comfy. The only drawbacks were that the shower upstairs is very small and the shower head can't be adjusted. And it's quite dark in the cabin given the woods close around the house. But we loved the layout of the house, and generous supplies of soaps, towels, and the like. And it's a good location - not too far away from the Smokies and Bryson City.

A very pleasant experience staying in a true wood cabin in the woods. The stream running under the drive way is a cool added touch. It was very easy to get to and the GPS took us straight to the driveway. It was very peaceful and quiet. Highly recommend!

Peaceful and relaxing stay in this historic log cabin. The sound of the creek was so inviting every time you step outside. The covered porch had rocking chairs and a swing to enjoy the the sights and sounds of nature, as well as a nice fire pit next to the babbling creek. Very quiet area even though the cabin is close to the road. The inside is roomy and cozy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals. The decor has a fun rustic mountain cabin vibe. It is very conveniently located to Bryson City and the Nantahala river. Bryson City offers good food and access to wonderful hiking with Deep Creek tubing also an option. Overall, it was all we needed and certainly enjoyable.

We enjoyed our time at Cullisia. The beds were comfy and the woodwork in the cabin was beautiful. Bathrooms were good. The kitchen had some areas of need. There was grease dripping down on the stove top from the vents and a couple of burners did not work properly. The frig did not have any door shelf covers and the ice cube holder was broken.

We loved staying in the Cullisia Cabin. Charming and comfortable. We were able to open the windows and just listen to the peace the running water outside brought. It was a perfect get-a-way from the city. The cabin had all of the modern amenities we needed without compromising the absolutely charming cabin feel. It is conveniently located to everything in the area we wanted, but also gave us the peace and quiet we were looking for. This is a great place to bring your family or significant other. We truly enjoyed our stay in your cabin! The only problem we had was that the fireplace did not work the first night of our stay, which was disappointing. They did come and fix the fireplace tge very next morning however. Lovely home, lovely setting, and easy rental process!

I had actually found the cabin online a couple of years ago and was finally able to get there, I don't know what took me so long! It is close to so many activities, Bryson City is just terrific and small.

Thank you for a wonderful and peaceful stay, and yes secluded! It is so quiet all we heard was the creek and breeze in the trees. Anxiously planning our next excursion.

Efficient use of limited space. The living and dining area spacious enough for 4. We did a lot of cooking and found the kitchen to be adequate. Upstairs bath a little tight.Loved the porch swing and sound of the creek. No propane in tank so the fireplace was not usable. Nice privacy.

We loved the cabin! The only thing I can complain about is the gas logs would never come on. That’s why I can only give 4 stars for general because after fly fishing in the cold water, I’d love to have come back and sit by the fire! We called and they said that it was probably too hot but it was 50 degrees so I’m not sure. I also wish there were measuring cups in the kitchen drawers but it didn’t keep us from cooking!
The creek is beautiful! We grilled and built a fire! The cabin though is so cozy and secluded! It was perfect!
