Black Bear is located in the high elevation, gated Alarka Highlands Community. All cabins located in this community are high-end luxury cabins. For guests' entertainment there is a clubhouse with tennis courts. The private nature of the property also allows for nice hikes and views throughout. Alarka Highlands is located about 15 miles from Bryson City, which is about a 30 minute drive. In the area you will find plenty of venues for entertainment and adventure including: The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Deep Creek Community, Nantahala River Gorge, Tsali Biking, Fontana Lake. Downtown Bryson City has an elevation of 1,752 feet, so think of this as a starting point. The majority of our cabins will have a higher elevation than this. This means that our roads- both state and private- will be steeper, narrower, and curvier than you may be used to driving. Also, you should expect to encounter gravel roads. Consider it part of our rural mountain charm!

  The cabin is neat and cleaned. When we arrived the trash can was full and no internet. But I did get in touch with the rental company, and they assisted in getting the issues resolved. We were a little disappointed Swain County being under a fire ban, so we could not enjoy the fire pit but for 1 day. We enjoy the views and quite time at the cabin and love the surrounding little towns. We did visit Darnell Farms this year, cool little place. The recliner was broken and the hottub was dirty.

  Loved the cabin. Couple things to note. Hot tub jets are very weak. And it was very nice and quiet until neighbors started using leaf blower and spoiled our serenity unfortunately.

  We had a wonderful time in the Black Bear cabin. This cabin was one of the cleanest we have stayed in. The views are wonderful and it’s pretty secluded. There is another cabin up the mountain but you can’t really see it. The road to the cabin might be a challenge in the snow but it is well worth the distance once you get there. We will hopefully get to stay here again in the winter. Our boys loved the bunk beds and it was the perfect size for our family of 5. The little black bear decor inside was adorable.

  The cabin was exactly as described. The view was amazing and the quiet addicting. The only hitch was the WiFi was out so no internet or TV which made working difficult, but we managed. We just drove into town to check phone calls and email. We wanted solitude and to unplug and that is just what we got. It was wonderful. We definitely will be back annually if not more.

  We LOVE our annual home away from home retreat to Black Bear Cabin! It’s our yearly reset after the holidays to regroup, read, relax and just be quiet. The cabin is always immaculate and feels like home away from home. The kitchen is well stocked with everything we need...so if you like to eat in like we do..everything is there. If you plan on going in the winter months...be warned! It’s a steep ride up the mountain and you will need 4 wheel drive in the snow. Don’t rely on the Bryson City weather forecast ... you really need to check with Yellow Rose. They will also provide you with written directions...do not rely on your GPS...it’s like going to the Land of Narnia...it beautiful but tucked away in its own world. Our favorite thing to do is soak in the hot tub when it’s snowing outside! We have never been during the other seasons...but there are several trails and the views are amazing! We are friends of the owners...so we really appreciate the time and creativity that they have spent making sure this sweet cabin lives us to its name. The decor is warm and inviting and you definitely feel like your in a Black Bear ’s adorable. The big rockers on the front porch are fabulous...even bundled up in a blanket watching the snow. We just really love our time here...our goal this year is to visit during another season so we can experience the hiking trails and beautiful scenery.
